Important applications areas of sodium formate include:

production of sodium hydrosulphite
production of formic acid
leather tanning
bleching agent for pulp and paper
enzayme stabiliser in detergents
pH buffer agent
filler in toothpaste
production of deicers
Sodium formate is also used in several fabric dyeing and printing processes.
